Located in the central part of the state of Maryland south of the Magothy River and north of the Severn River, Arnold is a Maryland suburb outside of Annapolis located in Anne Arundel County. According to a 2010 census, the population of Arnold was made up of 23,000 individuals.

Arnold’s history begins with Native Americans who are said to have resided in the area. This is based on the fact that artifacts were found in the area dating back to the archaic period. It is said that tribes such as the Algonquin Indians later settled in the area. Arnold derives its name from John Arnold, a farmer who first settled the area. He acquired 300 acres lying on the northern side of the Severn River that he farmed. He was a veteran of the War of 1812.

The Anne Arundel County Public School System serves Arnold. The Severn River Middle School, Broadneck High School, and Arnold Christian Academy all serve to educate the younger residents of Arnold. Anne Arundel Community College serves the individuals of the community seeking higher education opportunities. Also, the University of Maryland, Baltimore is located about 2 miles north of Arnold.
