Severna Park, located in central Maryland, is a census-designated place within Anne Arundel County. It is located about 8 miles north Annapolis, Maryland and is considered to be part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. Severna is also 17 miles south of Baltimore and about 39 miles east of Washington, District of Columbia. According to the 2010 United States Census, Severna had a population of 37,000.

Originally named Boone, Severna is said to derive its name from an African-American woman who, in 1906, won a contest. It is originally said that the contest winner would be prized with 500 acres of land, but since the prize was won by an Africa-American woman she was awarded $500 instead. The contest was held by Oscar Hatton.

Like many places throughout the northeast, Severna Park is full of history. The Robinson House, a historic home built in 1740 that is made of red sandstone, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Severna Park has many schools in both the private and public sector. Severna Park Elementary School, Severna Park Middle School, Severna Park High School, and St. John the Evangelist School are a few schools located in the area that all serve the residents of Severna Park.

Summer in Severna Park sees temperatures that average from the lower to mid-80s in the daytime and into the 60s at night. The month of July sees the most rain, with 4 inches falling annually.
