Chester, Maryland, a census-designated place positioned in the western portion of the state, is located in Queen Anne’s County and has a population of 4,100 according to the 2010 United States Census.

Chester is located on Kent Island.  The island is the largest island in the Chesapeake Bay. Kent Fort, founded in 1631, was the first English establishment on the island. Kent Island is the oldest English settlement in the state of Maryland and the third oldest in the United States. Stevensville is also located on Kent Island, along with Chester. Other communities, including the fishing community of Kent Narrows, are located on the island as well. Despite the fact that the communities of Stevensville and Chester are unincorporated communities, they are both more populous than any of the incorporated towns in Queen Anne’s County.
